EAST COAST SOUR DIESEL STRAIN
East Coast Sour Diesel is a fast-acting attitude lifter that patients love for its truly sativa effects. This strain has a sour lemon smell and taste that’s crisp and uplifting. East Coast Sour Diesel is powerful so new patients should be cautious. Those looking to alleviate anxiety or get some sleep may want to skip this high energy medicine.
When Original Diesel was accidentally crossed with a DNL plant that hermied, it created seed stock that produced the East Coast Sour Diesel (ECSD) clone. Many seed companies have released crosses with the strain, and some (like Reservoir Seeds) have attempted to reproduce the strain in seed form, releasing a variety of backcrosses and IBLs with varying results.
Sour Diesel displays an extremely pungent blend of fuel, skunk, citrus, and spice that will leak through many jars and bags when the strain is well-grown. The sharpness gets stronger after breaking it up, adding a stronger kick of citrus as well as a cutting fuel aroma that tickles the nose.
A frontal attack of skunky citrus funk gives way to a mentholated lime-kissed spice which lingers in the mouth. The smoke is expansive and will definitely cause coughing on larger hits.
Sour Diesel is fairly Sativa-dominant but seems to exhibit a headslam of an Indica effect at times, especially if let go late into flowering. It hits the eyes and head immediately, filling them with pressure and energy, while the body seems almost immobile at times, trending heavily towards couchlock — a numbing quality is also often reported, aiding with nerve and muscle pain relief. Sour Diesel isn’t known for being a long-laster at medicinal levels — it’s a high peak and then a valley normally, often finishing with the user feeling lethargic and a bit drained after the Sativa start. Sour Diesel often helps with nerve issues, appetite, and can also help as a sleep aid during the “crash” portion of the effects.
Sour Diesel doesn’t yield quite as well as Original Diesel, growing a bit more spindly and with lighter buds, but the yield is still above-average. Training and netting works very well for this strain, and it will take moderate to high amounts of feeding during flower, bulking up until the very end. It stretches at least twice its initial height when flowered, more than that without training.
“This well-balanced hybrid originates at TGA Seeds and its main breeders Subcool and Mz. Jill, though this one is actually Mz. Jill’s work. As the story goes, one day Mz. Jill was gifted an Orange Skunk cut (of unknown origin, likely Aeric77’s Cali-O) with an uncanny orange flavor. Always searching for new and more delectable tastes they immediately thought of crossing the new cut with their potent Space Queen, whose cherry/mango flavors were already a big hit. Thus was born Jilly Bean. These colorful, hybrid flowers exhibit a perfect union of Indica/Sativa bud structure.
The Scoop: Jack Herer is a lofty and inspired hybrid that was first cultivated by one of the resourceful breeders. Perpetuating the notoriety of its deceased hemp-activist namesake, Jack is thought to be a cross between Shiva Skunk, Northern Lights #5, and an enigmatic Haze hybrid. Debatably considered one of the most victorious varieties competing in modern cannabis festivals, Jack Herer has taken home multiple HTCC trophies over its celebrated 23-year lifespan.
Mother’s Milk strain, brought into existence by Sensi Seeds, is a 70% sativa-dominant strain with heavy Haze genetics. This Jack Herer cousin typically forms spear-shaped buds that carry more weight and density than your archetypal sativa. Its aroma is sweet and tangy with earthy undertones that provide a smooth, complex flavor profile.
Pineapple Express combines the potent and flavorful forces of parent strains Trainwreck and Hawaiian. The smell is likened to fresh apple and mango, with a taste of pineapple, pine, and cedar. This hard-hitting sativa provides a long-lasting energetic buzz perfect for productive afternoons and creative escapes.
Harlequin weed is a 75/25 sativa-dominant strain renowned for its reliable expression of CBD. A descendant of Colombian Gold, a Nepali indica, and Thai, and Swiss landrace strains, you can depend on Harlequin to provide clear-headed, alert sativa effects. Unlike most high-CBD strains, Harlequin almost always develops a CBD:THC ratio of 5:2, making this strain one of the most effective out there for treatment of pain and anxiety, as CBD counteracts THC’s paranoia while amplifying its painkilling properties. Flavors can range from earthy musk to sweet mango, but without a doubt, what draws crowds to Harlequin is its ability to relax without sedation, and to relieve without intoxication.
Trainwreck is a mind-bending hybrid with potent sativa effects that hit like a freight train. Mexican and Thai sativas were bred with Afghani indicas to produce this Northern California staple, passing on a sweet lemon and spicy pine aroma.
Northern Lights strain stands among the most famous strains of all time, a pure indica cherished for its resinous buds, fast flowering, and resilience during growth. Itself a descendant of indigenous Afghani and Thai landrace strains, Northern Lights has given rise to famous hybrids like Sour Diesel, Shiva Skunk and Super Silver Haze. Rumor has it that Northern Lights first sprouted near Seattle, Washington, but was propagated out of Holland after 1985 at what is now Sensi Seeds.
THC: 17.82% LINEAGE: OG KUSH X WEST COAST SKUNK. AROMA: Banana bread with earthy undertones. EFFECT: Potent Indica affects that inducing sleep, relaxation, and sedation. Best for end of day. MEDICAL: Can aid insomnia, stress, restlessness, and pain.
This legendary West Coast strain crosses Ghost OG and Skunk Haze to create an indica-dominant hybrid that tastes and smells like a bushel of fresh bananas. Banana Kush tends to provide a mellow buzz alongside a relaxed sense of euphoria. A great choice when dealing with stress or depression, Banana Kush also helps stimulate your creative juices and can help you remain talkative in social settings.
Light of Jah is a sativa-dominant cannabis strain whose name is often used interchangeably with Jack Herer, but may also refer to a Jack Herer and Afghani hybrid. This hybridized rendition still leans toward the sativa side with uplifting effects that fuel creativity and positive moods. Its flavor is a sweet combination of tropical fruit and hashy, pepperyspice.
Combining the heavy Indica strain, The White with the strong Sativa strain Cinderella 99 yields the amazing hybrid known as White 99. This strain yields bright green buds with yellowish-orange hairs that look as though they were sprinkled with sugar. White 99 has a fresh, almost tropical aroma that is followed by a sweet citrus flavor that many describe as a Kush aftertaste. Strain connoisseurs that like both Indicas and Sativas will have a hard time passing up White 99.
Strawberry Kush is sweet, strong and truly well-rounded. This strain certainly justifies its lineage and contains a musky artificial strawberry taste with a THC content of up to 23 percent. It is essentially found as a cross between the bitter OG Kush and the sugary Strawberry Cough and is mostly strong but not overwhelming.
