The Blue Dream strain is one of cannabis’ most popular Sativa-dominant hybrids, first coming onto the scene in Northern California, then exploding nationwide as the proliferation of medical cannabis increased. The strain is a perfect example of a Sativa-Indica fusion — combining a selected Santa Cruz Haze mother with a DJ Short’s Blueberry F4 male made this a Sativa-dominant plant, but with the most desirable traits of the Blueberry father intact, including its sweet aroma and large, dense nug structure.
Blue Dream strain is uplifting yet smooth and anxiety-free, perfect for patients who like more of an “”uppy”” strain, but don’t want it to get into the nervous/racy area. The sandalwood Haze-meets-blueberry muffin aroma and flavor make Blue dream a crowd favorite, while its relatively fast flowering time and high production makes it a grower’s favorite… its popularity certainly makes sense!”
Though the creator remains a mystery, this strain came out of the Santa Cruz area medical scene in Northern California and has since blown up in every medical marijuana marketplace around the country since, becoming one of the most popular strains available. The strain was recently recreated by DJ Short himself as “Azure Haze”, using a special Silver Haze mother and a Blueberry F4, one generation closer to the mother plant than the F5 used in the original cross.
Sweet and floral berry, often with a hint of citrus-sandalwood sharpness from the Haze.
Much like the smell, it’s floral berry with some almost ‘purple’ notes at times (grape, flowers) — some expressions are heavy on the floral, almost hitting a lavender note at times.
Very uplifting and cerebral, it takes mostly after its Haze father — but in the background exists a strong sense of body relaxation and quality pain relief. Energetic and aware to start, its potency may still catch some users by surprise — there are some rushy tendencies early on. The strain evokes lots of creative energy despite occasional bouts of scatter-brained distraction, and at times the user will find themselves in a state of near-euphoria. Solid body relief seems to increase as it goes along, building until it becomes more of an Indica feeling to finish; warm and relaxed, with the patient completely at-ease. We recommend this strain as a daytime or early evening choice, a great way to take the edge off of the day and relax the mind and body for a restful night of sleep as the effects decline.
One of legendary breeder Soma’s most varied and geographically-diverse strains, Lavender strain (formerly known as Soma #10) is named for its common finishing color and also for its unique flowery-spice scent that brings to mind fragrant charas hashish.
Despite the plant’s Indica-dominant genotype, it grows tall and leggy and is very easy to manicure. Lavender is a very relaxing and mellow strain, making it easy to slip into early sleep with a high dosage. Great for evening relaxation leading into sleep as well as muscle pain and anxiety.
A sister plant to our Deadman OG, this hybrid uses a different example of the Mandarin on the same Deadhead OG mother plant. The results are more citrusy and less OG than the Deadman, bringing more of the Mandarin to the party. The uplifting Mandarin takes control of the majority of effects, as this is not a sedative strain at all — this one is social, active, and great for daytime use.
The Bruce Banner Strain (probably better-known as the alter ego of comic book superhero The Incredible Hulk) is one of three phenotypes of the Bruce Banner weed strain and has proven to be a popular one. Effects come on quickly to provide an immediate burst of euphoria before easing into relaxation that may be good for creative pursuits. Delta9 Labs bred this strain from OG Kush and Strawberry Diesel, and its heritage can be found in its diesel aroma with sweet undertones. Its plants flower at 8 to 10 weeks.
Lifesaver (or Life Saver) is an indica-dominant hybrid that lives up to its name in more ways than one. This bud offers a tart, candy-like fruit flavor alongside some invaluable therapeutic power. Lifesaver was created by inventive breeders BOG Seeds as a cross between their own BOG Bubble and JCB (which is itself a cross of Jack’s Cleaner and Blueberry). The result is a dynamically-flavored flower with lasting and balanced potency. Lifesaver’s THC content has been measured at between 12% and 21%.
East Coast Sour Diesel is a fast-acting attitude lifter that patients love for its truly sativa effects. This strain has a sour lemon smell and taste that’s crisp and uplifting. East Coast Sour Diesel is powerful so new patients should be cautious. Those looking to alleviate anxiety or get some sleep may want to skip this high energy medicine.
Trainwreck is a mind-bending hybrid with potent sativa effects that hit like a freight train. Mexican and Thai sativas were bred with Afghani indicas to produce this Northern California staple, passing on a sweet lemon and spicy pine aroma.
Romulan strain, named after the alien Star Trek race, is a powerful indica revered for its potent therapeutic qualities. Though mostly indica, Romulan growers insist sativa genetics have crept in over time, lending it intense cerebral effects. These squat, pine-scented plants produce dense frosty buds that have found their following among connoisseurs in B.C. and the Pacific Northwest. A deep, sedating relaxation makes Romulan a favorite strain for patients treating muscle spasms and nerve damage. Many hybridized variations of Romulan exist, but nearly all can promise a full body calm with heavily intoxicating properties.
Sour Kush might be one of the best choices out there for those looking for daytime pain relief. Providing consumers with an uplifting experience without overwhelming sedative effects, this hybrid is great for day-to-day consumption. Sour Kush is slightly sativa-dominant, igniting a giggly and euphoric feeling. The indica effects, however, present themselves a few minutes after consumption. This strain is extremely pungent, so it’s best stored in tightly sealed containers.
Harlequin weed is a 75/25 sativa-dominant strain renowned for its reliable expression of CBD. A descendant of Colombian Gold, a Nepali indica, and Thai, and Swiss landrace strains, you can depend on Harlequin to provide clear-headed, alert sativa effects. Unlike most high-CBD strains, Harlequin almost always develops a CBD:THC ratio of 5:2, making this strain one of the most effective out there for treatment of pain and anxiety, as CBD counteracts THC’s paranoia while amplifying its painkilling properties. Flavors can range from earthy musk to sweet mango, but without a doubt, what draws crowds to Harlequin is its ability to relax without sedation, and to relieve without intoxication.
The CandyLand strain, a gold medalist of the 2012 KushCon, is a sativa-dominant hybrid bred from Granddaddy Purple and Bay Platinum Cookies. Golden hairs weave through Candyland’s thick coat of sugar-like trichomes and highlight the compact, camouflage-colored buds. This strain grows well indoors and out, and patients turn to Candyland to relieve pain, muscle tension, and sour moods. Strong sativa genetics give Candyland uplifting and stimulating effects, making it a perfect strain for social gatherings or creative pastimes.
The Alien OG strain is a cross of Tahoe OG and Alien Kush. As one of the most potent strains available, this indica-dominant hybrid has tested as high as 28% THC. Alien OG kush has the typical lemon-pine “OG” smell and flavor, and an intense high that combines heavy indica body effects and a psychedelic cerebral buzz. Beginners and novices, be sure to take it slow with this heavy-hitter.
Created in Topeka, Kansas by a grower known as “MrDank”, Golden Goat was brought to Colorado right as the medical cannabis scene began to develop, and made its way into a number of the first dispensaries in the state. Since then, it has become one of Colorado’s signature strains, known for its tantalizing lemon-grenadine aroma and flavor as well as its complex Sativa-dominant effects package. It was originally named after the Golden Goat Recycling plant in Topeka, more speficically the smell of a thousand different types of soda syrup fermenting in the hot sun — that sweet and funky quality comes through in a well-grown Goat. A fabulous medical variety, it has shown benefits with MS, RSD, depression, fatigue, and migraines.
